a mid-'90s pre-apocalyptic serial killer investigation TTRPG

Devlog: Ashcan

I’m making incremental but important progress now, shaping things for an ashcan/playtest/quickstart advanced preview for UKGE at the end of May. This is a rough-and-ready draft version of Midnight of the Century, meant for 3 things:

  1. Get the current rules into the hands of lots of different people.
  2. Get the word out about the game.
  3. Get me off my ass to work on the game.

I’ll have a printed version of the ashcan at UKGE in Birmingham. Think of this as v0.1, likely to change but gives you a good idea about the core ideas and mechanics of Midnight of the Century, along with a taste of the aesthetic.

Fleshing out the Introduction section, including the Pacific Northwest setting.

Mid-‘90s, the Pacific Northwest.

The beautiful and peaceful Pacific Northwest welcomes you to the 1990s! Walk our safe (and clean!) streets without a care in the world, grab a hot cup of Joe from our many local coffee shops, and lose yourself in our stunning and majestic old growth forests.

The Pacific Northwest: The Best Place to Spend the Rest of Your Life!

That’s the line they feed the tourists and gullible rich folk. You know better. The city’s a shithole, segregated and gentrified. Walk down the wrong streets and you’re likely to disappear into the shadows. There’s something WRONG here, under the surface. And I don’t mean the Cascadia fault.

Most folks don’t talk about it, even if they sense something’s off. There’s a storm coming, and these murders are just the beginning.
