mid-'90s occult investigation TTRPG

Devlog: Playtest plans

Midnight of the Century development continues apace! My Planner/kanban board is working well for me. I’ve got buckets setup for the different areas like rules/mechanics, investigations, setting/lore, etc.

My goal at the moment is to get the game into a playtestable state. This includes having the following elements ready:

  1. Enough core rules to run an investigation.
  2. First draft of an introductory investigation.
  3. First draft of investigator creation.
  4. Two investigator specialisms with draft skills: Profiler and Occultist.

I need to make sure the game is fun and the core investigation loop holds together well enough.

I’ll be testing the game internally first and then rolling it out for further testing. I’ll run some of the testing sessions myself and then release some core rules for folks who want to test it themselves.

I’m also looking to future plans and deciding whether or not to crowdfund Midnight of the Century. This means either Itchfunding or Kickstarter. KS is a massive time investment (at least 6 months) and brings a lot of stress but also raises more money than Itchfunding, so I’ll have to weigh the pros and cons.

Also down the road is aesthetic and layout, something I’m really looking forward to. Here’s a sneak peek of some inspiration and future plans:

Stack of VHS tapes on top of a TV/VCR.

Recently worked on: Psych profiles for Profiler and Occultist investigator specialisms; these give a bit more depth and history to your while fleshing out the lore and setting.
